Aquatic Animals Unit

The CMRB Aquatic Animals Unit provides services to enable researchers to use Zebrafish as a vertebrate organism model.          

Wild type, mutant and transgenic fish lines housed in the PRBB zebrafish facility, are available to provide live embryos and larvae under 5dpf for purposes other than raising (such as compound screening, behavioural testing and teaching purposes).

Staged embryos and larvae, fixed for in situ hybridization and immunohistochemical analyses, are also available.

We provide specialized services including:

  • Morpholino, RNA o DNA microinjection.

  • In Situ Hybridization.

  • RNA extraction from embryos.

  • Organ/tissue dissection from adult zebrafish, etc.

Our laboratory is fully equipped for standard fish work and has a microinjection station with:

  • Sutter P-97 Needle Puller.
  • Eppendorf FemtoJet microinjector.
  • Olympus SZX-FO stereomicroscope.
  • Leica MZ16F Fluorescence Stereomicroscope with color digital camera and computer.
  • Incubator for embyo rearing.
  • 12 fish racks Aquatic Habitats
  • Dinox tank cleaner
